Mike Reese's Bren Carrier Comparison

In order of appearance I like the models: #1 is TAMIYA kit in 1/48. The only bad part of this kit is the driver.
#2 is BAM model. This is a nice model and larger then I expected.
#3 is S&S model. The quality of this model is about the same as the BH metal one. I notice the driver compartment is larger then either the Tamiya kit or the BAM model. I am not sure why unless it is to fit a specific driver/Bren gunners figure.
#4 is AFAD model. This model is over-sized and several came with the tracks glued on backwards, but it is rugged and better then the BH model.
#5 is BATTLE HONORS model. Usable, but poorly done and very plain. I also don't like the weight of the metal and prefer the resin or plastic kit.

 Comments

 Tamiya  1:48  1  Accurate

Driver is way too small though the 28mm ½ figures fit in the driver and Bren gunner compartment just fine. Somewhat fragile and needs a gunner. Comes with 2nd Bren, a Thompson SMG, as well as 2 SMLE rifles.

 BAM  1:56  2  Accurate

Better detail then the other models except the Tamiya kit. Surprisingly close in size to the 1/48 model.

 S&S  1:60  3  Accurate

Slightly smaller than the BAM model- the major difference is in the forward compartment which is larger (as is the Tamiya compartment) than the BAM carrier. Larger seats with backs. Otherwise fairly plain.

 AFAD  1:48  3.5  Over-scale

Tough model and can put 28mm figures on or in - good for gaming but can't be mixed with the other models. Added (comes on model) kit does much to improve it.

Battle Honors  1:48  4  Too Wide

Plain model with bad suspension and much too wide. Front compartment no detail. Rear compartment comes with cargo for each which fills compartment. Model is all metal and heavy. Suspension bends.

Comparisons of the various kits to each other.

BAM, Tamiya.

S&S, Tamiya.

AFAD, Tamiya.

Battle Honors, Tamiya.
