|Long Review:||Coming from the famous/infamous Games Workshop stable, these rules raised a storm when they were released. Many people felt that any set of rules that is based on a fantasy set would not work.|
They have been proved wrong, as WAB has done more than any other set of historical rules I'm aware of to introduce new players to the historical side of wargaming. Admittedly the marketing strategy is pure GW, but the production values and the game itself are excellent. The rules are based on the 5th edition of the Warhammer rules, and the book is laid out very similarly to the fantasy version. There are sections detailing the basic rules, advanced rules, a campaign system, as well as two army lists. There is also a full-colour section showing the basic steps in collecting an army, painting it and flocking the bases, so for a minimal outlay you have a complete game.
In the years since its original release, there has been much discussion of an errata sheet to correct typographical and interpretational errors in the book, and it has only recently been released, although there are several unofficial versions out there.
