Mixes best with: | Still working on that, although they should fit with most other manufacturers' figures, even if they are a tad Heavier than Medium. |
Long Review: | I have owned and painted several armies' worth of Newline figures. While the detail is not as deeply incised as that of many other ranges, the figures are extremely easy to paint, and the paint just seems to flow on. The prices are very reasonable, and the poses are all natural, although there are one or two that are a little stiff. The lack of variety of poses within a range is also a little disappointing, although not too much of a problem, as some creative painting will easily sort that out. The irregular ranges do have a greater amount of variety, though. |
Commentary: | Useful, uncomplicated figures, they make a good, solid backbone for any army. The price is also good, so they are ideal for starters. |
"Historical" Accuracy: | The overall look compares favourably with the historical references I've seen. |
Pose Quality: | The poses are fairly staid, but this is a bonus as ranking the figures in units is correspondingly easy. |
Sculpting: | Average. The style is pretty bland, allowing the painter a great freedom to achieving a good finish. That does not, however, imply bad figures. |
Casting: | Average. There are some very slight seams on most of the figures, and some more severe ones on others. The metal is fairly soft, however, so they are easily removed. |
