Long Review: I own two SdKfz 251/1 A/B, which was one of the first kits produced by NZWM. When I saw the new C and D versions Tony mentioned on his group, I figured that, as my German collection has grown so considerably, they need more transport. What better than more halftracks? I went ahead and ordered some...
To say that I was surprised by the parcel is an understatement. The new '251s are stunning. Gone is the one- or two-part casting. These are full-on kits consisting of two resin hull parts, and an additional 28 or 29 detailing parts in both resin and metal. These are actually almost scale model kits rather than wargame vehicles.
The individual parts are incredibly well-cast and detailed. The resin parts are almost scale-thickness (an achievement in itself), and the fit, even straight out of the box, before any cleaning on my part, is excellent. Included is a photo-copied two-page set of instructions on assembling the kits.
I must say that I'm still impressed with the kits. When I first began assembling them, I was a little intimidated- the number of parts is quite daunting. However, by assembling the bits an area at a time, the kits almost fell together. The front wheel assembly is a little fiddly, and one of my track-units was severly warped (easily fixed with some hot water, though). The surface detail (and that in the crew-compartment, for that matter), is well-executed, and really looks convincing once painted. I'm really happy with these kits and wish I'd gotten a few more when I had the chance.
Commentary: A great little kit for the late-war Germans.
