Long Review: | The figures sent for inclusion in this review are from the newer ranges (Gebirgsjäger) and a few from the older ranges (German riflemen). The newer range is extremely well-done, showing the Gebirgsjäger uniform well, with minimal flash. The older range has some very thick casting vents and fairly prominent mould lines. Apart from the odd way some of the riflemen hold their weapons, these are probably one of the best value-for-money ranges out there. |
Commentary: | This review was the second time I've owned some of BTD's WW2 figures. The first time was about five years ago, when I had a number of their Germans. By the time this project surfaced, I'd disposed of them, so I needed to get new ones to refresh my opinions. I can safely say that my views have not changed. The figures are nice, serviceable figures, usually sold at a good price. My dislikes are based on two things- the older figures have a lot of flash, and some of the poses are simply "wrong", especially the ones holding rifles at waist height. Having spent two years in the military, as well as many years of carrying rifles, the awkward wrist posture of these figures is more suited to a ballerina than a soldier- although I hasten to add that the remainder of the figures are extremely eye-pleasing. Admittedly they are a little rougher around the edges, but the sheer variety of poses offered is incredible, as is the selection of periods and units within the WW2 period. |
