Long Review: | The first time I saw mention of this subject was on one of the many forae I frequent. One of the members mentioned a very interesting (particularly if you're British) what-if. A "what-if" postulates a certain course of events that follow a small (or sometimes major) change in history. The premise of this particular sourcebook is the abdication (or, in this case, non-abdication) of Edward in 1936 as a result of his relationship with "that American woman", Wallis Simpson. The book continues from the original events of the abdication, but assumes that he didn't abdicate. Events continue an outline of events into 1938, detailling various political factions, uniforms, flags and alignments, as well as a number of scenarios. The final section covers potential figure sources and a summary of the weapons used by the various sides in this fantastic conflict. The book is rule-agnostic, so it is left completely up to you to decide which rules to use and how to apply the various statistics in the sourcebook. Sheer genius, because it means you aren't bound into a rule-set. Period: 1936-1938, Third English Civil War. Scale: Mainly 28mm (the author's collection, as well as those of several influential friends), but can be used for any scale or rule set, as it is written in very generic terms. Basing: Whatever suits. Contents: 48-page A4 staple-bound book with colour pages. |
