Barrett Scale: 27L.
Mixes best with: Still working on that, although I suspect that they will match most of the others pretty well.
Long Review: I first noticed these figures while browsing through the Acheson website- looking through the terrain section, there was a small link to the figures (they're the last things on the page, and not well-advertised at all). I contacted Craig, who kindly sent me the samples for review purposes.
First impressions are definitely favourable- the figures come in a neat clamshell blister (which is extremely clear, and fairly easy to open). The three packs I received are a good start to a WW1 Austro-Hungarian force- apart from the riflemen, the Schwartzlose MG supplies the heavier firepower, while the odd grenadier provides some "trench artillery".
The figures themselves are neatly sculpted, with a good feel for the way the fabric folds and drapes, and the puttees are also neatly done (something I have seen dreadfully messed up on other figures). The helmets also capture the look very well, although the lugs for the sniper visor are possibly a little petite. The cut of the uniforms and caps appears quite correct when compared to my resources.
I do have a few small quibbles, though. The first (and most noticeable, for me) is that some of the rifles appear truncated- possibly a casting problem. Another small problem, though, is the fact that some of the rifle butts and bayonets are incompletely cast, possibly because the moulds were too cold. This is, of course, easily remedied, but it does detract from the finished figure a little.
Commentary: Very nice figures, filling another gap in the WW1 figure ranges. The only downside to the figures are that there were a few small casting discrepancies (literally just a missing bayonet tip or corner missing from a rifle butt on two or three figures), but these are easily remedied.
