|Long Review:||Very shortly after Shieldwall came yet another corker. El Cid, by James Morris, covers the period of the Spanish Reconquista from AD900 to AD1250. This excellent book contains an overview and detailed chronology of the period, which outlines the important events and battles of the time. The 8 lists include the armies of Christian Spain- The early Christian Kingdoms, the Age of El Cid and the Reconquista; the armies of Al-Andalus- The Caliphate of Cordoba, the Taifa Kings and the Later Taifas; as well as armies of the African Invaders- The Almoravids and the Almohads.|
In addition, there is an Allies and Mercenaries section, troops available for hire to add variety and spice to your armies (not that they really need it).
This period is one of the most colourful in military history and the armies are spectacular and varied. There is no shortage of troops available in 28mm, as almost all Norman and Arab troops can be used. Accompanying each of the army lists are detailed notes on wargaming tactics, and collecting and painting the various armies that fought in Medieval Spain. There are also two new scenarios and a campaign system.
Period: Ancients up to about 1485AD.
Scale: 28mm, but can be used for 15mm with modifications.
Basing: Single figures.
Contents: Perfect-bound A4 book.
