These rules were originally on the Icon Miniatures page. The add-ons are from the Yahoo Landser e-Group. After a recent chat with Nick Eyre, he has permitted me to place these rules here. They were apparently something that he came up with on his own time, and he is planning to resurrect and improve them at some time in the near future.

The original rules are in black, and the optional rules suggested on the Landser Yahoo group are in red

The Soviets were keen on SMGs, producing a cheap and effective model that they issued to dedicated SMG squads. The squad composition given above is for such squads from December ‘41 to mid ‘42.
After this period, the size of the squad was dropped to eight men (reduce the squad’s quota of riflemen) as this was the number of men that could comfortably hang on to the back of a T-34, and so the Tank Riders became a fixed part of Tank Brigades.

A Soviet Building Assault Squad in Stalingrad

During the Battle for Stalingrad, the Soviet Commander Chuikov formed special units suited to conditions faced in the ‘dead city’. Special Assault squads were formed to storm buildings held by the Germans.
The composition of this squad on the table is quite random; it consists of a Squad Leader (armed with 2 grenades, a shovel and a pistol), a deputy (armed as the squad leader) and eight riflemen. Roll on the table below to see what the riflemen are armed with.

He is armed with a rifle. He can join the firefight with his rifle. He takes over the loader’s position if the loader is out of action or has taken over the firing role. He is not skilled in using the MG and may not take over the firer’s position.

The Panzer Grenadiers were motorized infantry who accompanied the tank divisions into battle. Most rode in trucks, a minority using the famous Hanomag half tracks. From summer 1944, drop 2 riflemen from every squad, but give the GPMG loaders rifles.
Note that only the Gruppenfuhrer has the Assault action. During the war, German infantrymen were noted for their reluctance to get into hand to hand combat, and because of this, the other soldiers in the squad can not make an Assault action unless their Squad Leader makes an Assault action.

At times the German Army, not always the most flexible in adjusting to local conditions, would arm its' squads for special duties. Such conditions arose in the battle for Stalingrad, where the combat was close and vicious.
Note that only the Gruppenfuhrer has the Assault action. During the war, German infantrymen were noted for their reluctance to get into hand to hand combat, and because of this, the other soldiers in the squad can not make an Assault action unless their Squad Leader makes an Assault action.

US Tanks

M3 or M5 Stuart light tank
The M5 was originally designated the M3E2. The main difference from the M3 was the use of twin Cadillac V8 engines but with the redesigned front hull it became the M3E3, later re-designated M5. The M5 replaced the M3 as the standard US light tank for the later part of the war. The flange on the side of the turret is a brush guard to protect the AAMG mount. Note that there was an M3A3 that had the same front hull as the M5 but still used the radial engine.
Crew: 4
Armament: The M5 was armed with a turret mounted 37mm anti-tank gun and a co-axial mounted light machine gun, a hull mounted light machine gun, and a pintle mounted light machine gun on the turret.

M24 Chaffee light tank
The M24 was the final US light tank design of the war and was a great improvement on the Stuart series. It had torsion bar suspension, thicker armor, and a short 75mm gun as in the M4 Shermans. Unfortunately, it was too late to see much action in WW2.
Crew: 5
Armament: The M24 was armed with a turret mounted 75mm anti-tank gun, a co-axial mounted light machine gun, a pintle mounted light machine gun, and a hull mounted light machine gun.

M3 Lee/Grant medium tank
The Medium Tank M3 was a hasty improvisation to produce a tank with a 75mm gun to match what the Germans had shown in the Blitzkrieg. At that time, the standard US medium tank, the M2, had only a 37mm gun and 4 MGs in sponsons around the lower hull. The M3 was thus an M2 with thicker armor and the 4 sponson MGs replaced by 1 sponson 75mm. The 75mm had limited traverse, the tank was a large target, and it was difficult to coordinate the fire of both weapons, but the M3 was still effective early in the war, especially in North Africa with the British. There were 2 versions of the M3. This one was called the "General Grant." The "General Lee" was identical but added a cupola with an enclosed MG on top of the 37mm turret.
Crew: 6
Armament: The M3 Grant was armed with a turret mounted 37mm anti-tank gun, pintle mounted light machine gun and sponson mounted 75mm anti-tank gun. The M3 Lee was armed with a turret mounted 37mm anti-tank gun, co-axial mounted light machine gun, pintle mounted light machine gun and sponson mounted 75mm anti-tank gun.
Special Rule: The M3 Lee/Grant had a difficult time coordinating the fire of both weapons. As such, if both weapons are fired a -1 to-hit penalty is incurred.

M4 Sherman medium tank
A total of 49,234 Shermans were built in the US during the Second World War, a quantity equaled by only one other wartime tank, the Soviet T-34. Many variations of the Sherman tank included flamethrowers, rocket launchers, mine exploders (flails), swimming apparatus, and tank dozer conversions.
Crew: 5
Armament: M4 Shermans where armed with either a turret mounted 75mm anti-tank gun or 76mm anti-tank gun, a co-axial light machine gun, a pintle mounted light machine gun, and a hull mounted light machine gun.

M26 Pershing heavy tank
After the cancellation of the M6 Heavy Tank project - the T23 - the T25 was developed with a 90mm gun and then the T26 - with a 90mm gun and thicker armour and wider tracks. In January 1945, the US forces received some of the tanks. It became the M26 - 310 were in Europe at the end of the war.
Crew: 5
Armament: The M26 is armed with a turret mounted 90mm anti-tank gun, co-axial mounted light machine gun, pintle mounted light machine gun and a hull mounted light machine gun.

German Tanks

Panzer I light tank
Originally to be a training tank for pre-war Panzer Divisions but was pressed in to use until 1942.
Crew: 2
Armament: Two turret-mounted light machine guns.

PzKpfw IV medium tank
This became the workhouse of the Panzer Divisions. It was conceived by General Guderian as a heavy support tank for Panzer III units.
Crew: 5
Armament: A turret mounted 7.5cm KwK 39 anti-tank gun, co-axial light machine gun, and a hull mounted light machine gun.

PzKpfw V Panther heavy tank
The best of all German tanks. It had an superb balance of firepower, protection and mobility. Allied tankers treated Panther formations with great respect. The Panther was the German response to the Soviet T-34. The Panther was rushed into production in early 1943 as a response to the Soviet T-34, that had wide tracks, powerful engine and strong gun. It also had sloping armour. All these features were copied by the Panthers designers.
Crew: 5
Armament: A turret-mounted 7.5 cm KwK 42 anti-tank gun, co-axial mounted light machine gun, and hull mounted light machine gun.

PzKpfw VI Tiger I heavy tank
The massive Tiger was larger than then all previous German tanks. It was designed as a heavy assault tank that would break through enemy defenses, the project started in 1937. The first recognizable Tiger emerged in 1942. Tigers were first used in action around Leningrad, August 1942. Then they appeared in Tunisia. Then they fought on all fronts until the end of the war. A few were used to defend the center of Berlin in April 1945. A total of 1,354 were produced until late August 1944. In action they were slow and used a tremendous amount of fuel, but their heavy armor and powerful gun made them dangerous, especially for Allied tanks crews fighting in lesser vehicles like the M4 Sherman. While their front armor was almost impossible to penetrate, they could be destroyed if hit in the rear.
Crew: 5
Armament: A turret-mounted 8.8 cm KwK 36 anti-tank gun, co-axial mounted light machine gun, and a hull mounted light machine gun.
