document.write('<tr><th>Company Background:</th><td>Wargames Research Group, once described as a \'great and overweening organisation\', has never had more than four members. It started as a cooperation between three - Phil Barker, Bob O\'Brien and Ed Smith. Following the National Championships held in London in 1968, it was decided that the set of rules for the Ancient period was extremely unsatisfactory and something better was needed for the Championships to be hosted by the Worthing club the next year. Bob was a member of the organising club and he got together with Phil and Ed to produce the \'something better\'. This resulted in a set used for that competition and only a few copies were produced. After the competition, there was a demand for these rules and so some minor changes were made and the \'second edition\' was printed and sold. This made the original set the \'first edition\'.<br/> From the early 1970s, Phil worked full-time on researching and writing rules (since Sue was able and willing to provide financial support) and produced sets for several other periods as well as Ancients. He and Bob set up WRG to market these rules and it has continued to do so.</td>')
